Quiet, serene and cool- can there be a better place on earth than Kalimpong to enjoy quiet beauty of nature? This tiny pocket of paradise is located between the plains of Dooars and the hills of Darjeeling - Sikkim Himalayas.

Kalimpong is an unexplored wonderland. Though it is not as lively as Darjeeling, it wins over every tourist with its quiet natural beauty. Perched at an altitude of 1250mts, Kalimpong is crowned with snow-dipped mountains. Its world famous orchids, exotic flower nurseries, sweetly fragrant cold air and alpine weather altogether create a refreshing environment.

Tourist Attractions of Kalimpong

Neora Valley National ParkSprawling across an area of 88 sq km area of virgin forest , the Neora Valley National Park was set up in 1986. A beautiful picture of bio-diversity can be seen here. High mountains, dense forest, rapid river, natural beauty , full of strange wild animals , altogether the Neora Valley National Park is an excellent place. Some of the important residents of this place are Himalayan black bear, tiger, wild dog and goral.There are innumerable species of reptiles and birds.

History of Kalimpong

Till 1865, The present day Kalimpong was under the administration of the Bhutanese official for more than 150 years. The end of Anglo-Bhutan War changed the face of Kalimpong that rose beyong measures.

The lovely hill town gives credit to the Bhutan revenue officials for its charming name. If words are to be belived then it is said that the revenue officials used to visit Rinkingpong (the side of Kalimpong Cantonment since 1962) for collecting grain and other things from the Lepcha villagers residing there. Sometimes the local tribesmen used to amuse themselves by indulging in field sports on the level ground.
